I do a lot of CLE-SAN and there are no non-stops available. I use to have to go through IAH but with CO hooking up with UA, there are now lots of options. I have found the CLE-LAX-SAN is a good route if you are looking at trip time since UA has lots of flights from LAX to SAN. Furthermore, if you are looking for a red-eye back to CLE, you can leave SAN really late (around 7-8 PM) and catch the 11:30 LAX-CLE red-eye back. I have done that a number of times last year. Of course, you can still go through DEN, or ORD on UA codeshares as well.
