I need a minivan(or something to accomodate 4 adults and 2 kids plus luggage) at SNA from 12/27-01/01. I cannot reserve either on the National site, but have read they can occasionally be had from the executive selection (which I am). I'm planning on reserving using 2 free days and 2 1-2 free days...if I get there and there is no minivan, I have a reservation with Fox rental car for an astounding $131/day!
If one is available, I'll grab it...if not, it's off to Fox I go.
Assuming I call to cancel it around the time the car is reserved for, will I get my credits back?
You're getting blocked from reserving a minivan on the National website by using the 1-2-Free redemption codes. Those are only valid to redeem up to a full size car. You can either weigh the costs of using only 2 regular free days for a minivan (or whatever class you want) and pay for the remainder of the rental, or $131/day for the entire duration at Fox. Personally, I would use 2 free days and make sure I've found the best discounted contract ID and any other possible coupon codes from the sticky in this forum.
As far as getting your credits back for cancelling the reservation, it depends on when they're set to expire. As mentioned above, if the credits were to expire on 12/31/2010, then you won't get them back. If they're expiring on 12/31/2011, you will get them back. The 1-2-Free credits expire on 6/25/2011.
