I used to give them my FL concealed weapons license, which is technically a state-issued ID card. Invariably, they'd ask me, "You're not carrying now, are you?" (Oh, you mean guns aren't permitted through these checkpoints? :-p). They always ended up accepting the ID, with no more than 30 seconds of hassle.
