Sadly even that book is not a complete guide to ID cards in the US. Doesnt even include federal IDs, or passports, let alone how there faked.
If that clerk thinks that they could memorize all of the IDs in that book then I have a bridge with beach front property in Colorado to sell them. A vast majority of the TDC i have run into couldnt spot a fake and I have thrown a few under there nose to see if they could catch them, and they havent. Yet legit IDs i catch crap for, including my federal disaster response IDs that have higher training standards/requirements and security clearences then a CP stupervisor.
TSA "ID Class" to become a "Trained Document Checker" is a joke as its not where near what i had to take when i was working behind the bar. My initial class was 40 hours and it went over IDs from around the world (DL, ID, Passports, and other non-standard ID cards) and the yearly renewal was 12 hours. It covered not only IDs but as well as fakes and how to spot them. Sadly TSAs little magical loupe and black light are just pure theater and wont help you spot the fakes, as 99% can be detected by touch (and not with germ ridden gloves that a clerk has worn for hours) and with the naked eye if you know what to look for.
