I don't agree with this statement. Skype works for me as a charm. Skype disconnects the call at the 4 hour mark, so you have to redial if needed. I use it for most of my conf calls.
Also you can dial to 800 numbers for free from.. gmail, tried that multiple times (when skype is not installed on the computer I'm using).
