In any case, the main advantage of Magic Jack is not the money, but the stability, especially if you need to be on with CO for an extended period of time...on Skype you're virtually guaranteed to get cut off.
I've done multi-hour calls and had no problems. And the underlying technology is more or less the same. I doubt that one is generally more reliable than the other.
