The airlines are indeed obliged to meet expectations that they have set, which is that the capacity controls on upgrades should be reasonable for FF benefits to have value. To me, holding all upgrades for gate dispensation on transcons is very far from reasonable.
Anyway, we can all fulminate all we want but the free market will eventually be the judge of DL's policies.
I respect your viewpoint and agree that the market will ultimately decide. In the meantime, I would prefer the flights to be full, my airline making money and that there be no more consolidation in the industry which reduces all of our choices. As opposed to losing billions, no one here can argue that DL flights are not full, or that DL is not making money. We may not like how DL is doing it, but for now at least, it is in fact doing it. As far as the OP goes, we have yet to hear back from him with the exact number of seats in F, that DL should be entitled, per flight, to hold back for sale and not UG in advance. As I said above, I suspect the OP doesn't really care as long as HE is taken care of. Sorry, but it just doesn't work that way with ANY airline. If he had received his UG in advance this particular thread would, of course, not even exist.
