The problem is most times I want to call AA, I want to call from my mobile (cell)... in those cases 0844 cost a minimum of 20p/min, often more. Imagine that with today's hold times of 3hrs+. On the other hand, I can call the US directly for 9p/min or for just 1p/min if I use a third party service via a standard landline number!
Clearly AA don't think much of their UK customers considering they provide an 800 number for the US.
