Shockwave Flash dates from the early days of internet popularity, let's say 1995 or so. It was (at the time) a pretty revolutionary graphics rendering application that worked with others such as IE.
So I would guess that downloading and installing a current version of Adobe Flash and eradicating Shockwave may solve several problems for the OP.
That is unless you have a very old application or game that requires Shockwave, one that you cannot live without.
