Jasper2009: do ask NZ if they can through check for you. My experience has been mixed, so it's worth a shot. Presumably they're reticent to take responsibility for the bags when they don't get laid the full whack for them.

I´ll give it a shot, maybe I should bring a box of chocolates for the check-in agent in CHC?

I´m pretty sure I´ll get screwed at some point during the journey. I´ll be flying YYJ-YYZ-FRA-DUS-FRA-NRT-BKK-SYD-AKL-RAR-AKL-CHC-IVC-SZS-IVS-CHC-SYD-BKK-SIN-MUC-FRA-LHR within 3.5 weeks. With the current weather in Europe I may get screwed sooner than I was expecting.
