Note that NZ check in agents also enforce the 7kg weight limit for your single carry-on, or at least they did at LAX. One single light bag for NZ's highest class passengers is just ridiculous. And yet somehow I see people obviously getting around it.
You think SFO-AKL is bad...try flying AKL to anywhere domestically..they usually have one dedicated "bag nazi" ONLY watching to make sure you are bringing on a single bag and if the "bag nazi" thinks it needs to be checked..I have seen them send you back to the check-in counter (self check-in and tagging your own bag) and try to make the flight back through security!!
