about to fly air newzealand/united long haul flight in biz premier and am told that there is a strict one piece rule--not even a personal item such as a laptop or for women purse allowed.

asked where this was coming from and they said 'customs are very strict." ...? customs? what are they talking about? am i going to seriously have to check my carry on bag in order to bring the laptop? either way things will be very wrinkled (from smushing or checking) upon my arrival.

is this enforced at sfo, or are these just call center people being very strict...is it a new rule? wasn;t in place in october when flew to heathrow...

have to say that i was hoping for a bit of 'luxury" and now am dreading a showdown at the gate.
