I'm currently checked into the Westin SCL. My mother had eye surgery today and has a post-op appt tomorrow. I work down here and make the daily hour commute (in good traffic!) from Alameda/Oakland but wanted her to have a place to relax after surgery and till tomorrow.
Upon checking in and after getting my keys I asked if we had gotten an upgrade. (I had presented my Platinum card with my credit card.) I was assured that I had been put on the "Premier Floor". (I suppose the clerk must have worked there prior to the merger.) I was hopeful. But when I got to the room I was quite disappointed. It was a totally run-of-the-mill room, actually smaller than most.
They did deliver an amenity though--without even knocking on the door: a plate with one strawberry and 2 small chocolate candies. It came with a small card acknowledging that this amenity was especially for Starwood Preferred Guests (no mention of Platinum or Gold). It was signed by hand in one of those handwritings I remember from high school: those girls who weren't that bright but the size and shape of their letters made their script "real purdy".
I guess I'm spoiled from the St. Regis in LA and Rome!
