Simple common sense says, call the hotel directly. Many hotels have group rates.

So, much depends on how busy the hotel is that time of year. If they aren't booked full, then I doubt they'd want to lose 9 rooms in one booking.
If they can't do anything about the rate, and you don't want to consider another hotel, at least ask for something else. maybe you can get a dinner out of it.
