hegemonie, ROP system updates on Wed and Fri (dont' ask me why), so it depends on when the last flight that brought up your qualifying miles above 80K was posted.
Just look for when your 5K threshold bonus miles is posted, once that is posted, you can be assured your Gold status for the next two years are properly updated in their system and you can start using your GUP1 too if you have a trip in Jan that you want to use it for.
Keep in mind you may not see the validity changed to Dec 2012 until after new year (again, don't ask me why).
