Aircraft go down.... that's a fact. So I don't see how wanting to ensure I'm beside my wife, if the unthinkable were to happen to a flight we're on is particularly pessimistic.

Separate flights, is a different matter entirely & like you say we can't be with our loved ones all the time. However, my point is about sitting on the same aircraft as your partner & not able to be beside them in an emergency situation. The thought of being in a different part of the cabin or aircraft to my wife in a situation like that is just unbearable.
I remember seeing a program on the Hudson bay landing. IIRC There was a father & son on the flight, who because of late booking or check-in, ended up sitting apart. Neither knew if the other were still alive, until many hours after the event, as each were taken to a separate hospitals, having exited the aircraft on different sides. For them that was probably the most difficult part of the whole event.

Need a hug?

No thanks I don't need a hug, but thanks for the offer
I love my wife dearly & I don't think it all strange to want to be beside her on a flight. While the chances of being involved in an aircraft accident are miniscule, it did sadly happen to those PAX on the flights I referenced above & to many, many more
