At the risk of a "creationism" versus "evolution" debate, I will venture to say that when Randy "created" TalkBoard, the moderator corps was considerably smaller than it was and I doubt he could have envisioned around 100 stormtroopers eventually enforcing the laws on the forum. I doubt he could also have envisioned that some people would have taken up almost a half dozen "volunteer" roles while plenty of others wait in the wings. I also doubt he could have foreseen some moderators serving in that role for the better part of a decade, converting forums into their personal fiefdoms, condoning (and even perhaps engaging in) criminal activity, and pursuing personal agendas far beyond their mandate.

Rather, I think that things have "evolved" from the basic start that Randy gave them, and to his credit he has allowed them to evolve in the best judgement of the majority. To go back a decade and try to apply today's dynamics to a third party's hypothetical motives is not a convincing argument. We have our roles to play today as elected TalkBoard members and taking the retroactive cop-out position of "WWRD" is rather disingenious.
