It's a redemption booking (business class) and the connections are already tight. What will happen if we get part way back (MAD or LHR) and the rest is cancelled? What happens to checked-through luggage if things go pear-shaped? Are there phone numbers I should keep handy just in case? I don't have any status.
If it's just a case of an overnight stay in MAD or LHR, (at BA's expense!) that's no big deal, but if we are likely to be stuck for a few days do we have any options to try and get back with another carrier? Or from LHR, take the train or hire a car?
I know this is a bit premature, but if there are issues, I may already be en route when it happens. So by the time I find out I'll already be tired and stressed, and won't have much in the way of net access. So I'd rather be prepared and know what I need to do in advance. That way I am more likely to keep my cool on the day.
Well MAN are expecting 5 to 10 cm of snow and they have the clearance equipment to deal with it, as well as the second runway option for them to work on whilst clearing the primary etc.
MAD can have big problems if snow hits because of the area of taxiways and runways that they have. Many years ago I did stand on their de-icing platforms wondering how often they were used.
I would expect LTN and LGW to get it worse than STN and LHR. They have nearby hills that can cause the temperature to drop just enough to dump more snow, whereas STN and LHR are flat.
A redemption booking should be the same rights as a "paid" booking. Mind you, if you look at the horrendous charges that BA are imposing on your booking, then you have paid a lot anyway.
