Maybe there will be an e-cert option for this. This could answer the question about why there is an option for "no status" when you make a dummy booking on AC.com and choose the "show upgradeable fares" button.
The 'no status' option can be explained by the fact that eups can be donated / given to non-status members by E and SEs as part of the new programme. (i.e. a status member can give eups to a non-status spouse for use when the spouse is flying without the status member, etc.)
