Maybe there will be an e-cert option for this. This could answer the question about why there is an option for "no status" when you make a dummy booking on AC.com and choose the "show upgradeable fares" button.
The other option is the outrageously priced LMU. Everytime I decline, the front cabin is full airport checkin. Either they sold them all, or they clear at the gate.
