I'm sure I will be redirected, but I've tried searching the forum and it seems I'm still a bit n00bish.

I typically fly the lowest published fares, deep discount economy only. I was Gold last year through travel, expires Feb '11. Starting Jan '11 I will be doing a Platinum Challenge and I will obtain Plat by end of Feb '11.

I currently have approx 80K miles with no 500-mile upgrades yet... by end of Feb '11, I'll have another 30K miles and will net me 12 (500-mile) upgrades.

I know AA doesn't do complimentary upgrading like Continental for example, but what is the best way to start getting upgrades?

Use the 12 upgrades I will earn? Spend my 110K miles on 24 upgrades?

I'm just not sure what the best use of my money or miles is....

Any advice would be helpful!
