The rate qualifies for elite benefits and you will receive mileage/points and night credits. There is another rate available for travel agents that is much more restrictive and requires coupons. Those rates do not qualify for points and benefits according to the rules.
I suggest however that you have your TA friend put the room in your name and associate your MR # with the reservation. That way they can potentially have your upgrade waiting for you if there is one to be had.
