I have asked this question about 8 months ago as well. How close to departure can you change the ticket? At that time while the fee was 250$ I managed to change when I missed check-in, and as the plane was boarding.

Now a new issue. Pax checked-in, but realizes passport wont be valid for final destination. Error by the check-in staff or not, is the trip considered started when BP is issued?
