Not a Premium Property
I just wrapped up a stay at this resort. While the grounds are beautiful (although not nearly as beautiful as the much larger La Quinta resort), everything else is simply "fair" with really poor service all-around. I'd equate the experience here of a mid-range airport Hilton... and come to think of it, the Hilton at BOS and SNA airports offers better service and nicer accommodations than this Waldorf branded resort.
As a Diamond on a full rack rate, I was offered no upgrade. A friend who checked in shortly after I did, on a discounted rate, was offered the full Octilla experience. (The check-in staff practically denied Octilla's existence...and instead, offered me a "Diamond Letter" to read at my leisure.) When I asked about Octilla the agent that was checking me in steadfast said no upgrades were available while the other agents standing at the desk smirked.
The Diamond Letter spelled out the HHonors usuals: 1,000 point bonus because of the lack of an upgrade benefit, 20% off spa/meals, 2 free drinks at the lobby bar, and a choice of 1,000 points or a free in-room movie.
The 20% off meals came in handy...especially with some of the outrageous prices at the resort. Sample: drinks for 2, chips + guacamole, 1 bowl of gazpacho: $100. Poolside drinks were about $15/pop... and while the HHonors letter said the 20% off wouldn't apply to liquor, it did.
Service at the bars/restaurants was slow and spotty. You almost always had to chase down a waitress/waiter to take your order. The place must be under-staffed...service was really horrible, not because they were rude...but because they were non-existent. Waiting for a round of drinks in the lobby bar is about a 30 minute ordeal...and that's with just 4-6 other people floating around.
At the pool eatery, when people were loudly grumbling about the lack of service, someone mentioned that their room was dirty and their mini-bar is loaded up with expired snacks.
So when I went back to my room, I checked out the expiration date of my snacks...and sure enough, most expired last year...if not many months ago. The minibar staff didn't care -they barely spoke English, and when I pointed out issue, I got a "who cares" shrug.
Nothing was noteworthy about the room.... again, imagine mid-range airport hotel. At least there weren't any Neutrogena products in the bathroom.....but housekeeping was tight on re-stocking things over my stay.
I tried to use the spa, but it was busy (or not staffed) over the 5 days I was there...and I was unable to secure an appointment.
Otherwise, this was a mediocre experience not worthy of a Waldorf=Astoria brand nor pricetag. I won't return and recommend you don't either.
