I never payed since I know that I will get that executive room as a supgrade which happened to me everytime I stayed there. So it's not worth paying the 60 quid really. They never upgrade to any of the suites. but if you were a plat, you should get upgraded to a suite based on availability. Especially if it's for one night only.
Just an advice here, if you get an executive room try and get it on the 14th floor which is all newly renovated rooms and much better than the other exec rooms. (It's non-smoking though).
I've stayed there less than a month ago and got upgraded to an exec room on the 7th floor I guess but it was a smoking floor and I literally couldnt sleep at night, so I called them up and told them regarding this issue and they gave me one on the 14th floor and it was one of they new ones too.
Au contraire I stayed with the Mrs at the weekend and after forcing the issue received a panoramic suite upgrade. I was initially offered an Executive room (which I could have had on the day for exactly the same flexible rate I was paying). I pointed this out together with the results of a room availability search before leaving the office and an iPhone SPG App search just before reaching the property.
Mysteriously a "late cancellation" became available
Some time in advance of checking in I had to make my own restaurant reservation with One-o-One online because the concierge clearly could not be bothered handling the request.
I won't be hurrying back to the SPT any time soon. The suite was nice though with what appeared to be fresh decor (compared to Executive rooms I have had previously). It was rather a shame that the previous occupant's detritus was left in the living room fridge
To the OP it isn't worth £60 for an "Executive" room, these can still be quite low floor with a Brompton Road view. If you don't get at least an Exec Room as a plat then they should be ashamed of themselves. Spending money at this property is no guarantee of decent treatment. I spent over £650 on a one night stay and still couldn't get the internet to work.
