Well, I can answer my own question now, as I stayed at the Westin Resort Macau for a night over the weekend.
The overall impression was very good. Although the exterior could use a paint job here and there, the interior of the hotel is very nicely decorated and well kept (exept the carpet in the hallways).
As a humble comped SPG Gold I was given the corner room with the best ocean view on the upper SPG floor (no heavenly bed unfortunately, only for Diamonds apparently). Upon arrival we were greeted with the usual manager's welcome letter and a nice bowl of fruit. The latter was definitely a nice little suprise. Then, since we had a water leakage (!) from the A/C in the ceiling, we were given a new and larger bowl of fruit in the evening. The porch is large and nice, and so is the bathroom. The room and furniture appeared fairly new and stylish, and the bed was great even though it was just a regular King size. The down comforters and pillows are certainly a big improvement compared to the Hiltons I stay at in North America.
As for Fernando's - great and reasonably priced food but prepare to wait for at least half an hour around peak times, certainly on the weekends. Food at the hotel is kind of pricey.
The Hac Sa beach certainly doesn't compare with the South Pacific but is popular with the locals. It's good for a night-time walk with your "better half" anyway.
Recommended.
