JAL is your better bet using your husband's miles. For 70k miles, AA will want to put you on AA metal to NRT and JAL you to HKG. JAL itinerary using BA miles will get you the same.
CX itinerary will route you through YVR or LAX.
Will they force you to use AA or just strongly suggest it? My GF and I are planning a trip to Hong Kong and Tokyo using miles. We're going to Hong Kong using CX-F, Hong Kong to Tokyo and then wanted to fly JL-F from Tokyo to LAX and AA from LAX to DFW. We could fly direct from Tokyo to DFW on AA but want to see what JL First is like.
