I still don't see why BD couldn't use the domestic pier for an international departure if they wanted but am happy to be told the reason.
In Bristol are there separate channels for arriving and departing pax, or do arrivals get dumped into the departures area like in Schiphol?

I know in GLA on the domestic pier arrivals mix with departures, if they allowed an international flight (ie CPH) to depart from the domestic BD gates then it'd provide a loophole as someone could enter the UK by taking an international flight to GLA with onward connection to CPH and then effectively escape through domestic arrivals.

Airports with common departure areas that don't take photos (such as LCY) segregate departing and arriving pax for both domestic and international and make the international pax go through immigration even with an onward connection (I believe there's no proper transit at LCY).
