It depends... I do not think it is a question of Europe or the US or a specific airport... as somebody here said, it mostly depends on the airline that predominantly operates in a specific airport/terminal.
At CDG airport security staff immediately send you on the right lane based on your boarding pass if you are FB or flying with AF. Not quite the same if you are flying with DL.
