Always done SDC onto an EARLIER flight in the past, but looking to do a LATER flight out of LAS next week and never done a later flight before (thereby missing the earlier flight).

If you plan on SDC, I would *not* check in. Kind of a pain to "uncheck in" - it requires a phone call and usually at least a small wait on the phone.
And as you said, it is a risk to SDC to a later flight.
