It was nice of the assistant to the manager to call you and apologize. I am pretty sure though that the 10,000 SPG points is standard SPG policy for an elite member being walked to another property.
I can't find the thread but I am pretty sure the policy is free accommodation at alternative hotel when they are oversold, credit for original stay, transportation to the new property, and SPG points equivalent to the amount required for a 1 night free redemption at the property you were walked from (which is the Nines is a Category 4- 10,000 per night for redemption).
