If memory serves it was a midair collision between a United DC-8 and a TWA Constellation. The DC-8 broke up over Brooklyn, the Connie limped over to Staten Island and crashed. I lived on Staten Island as a kid in the '60s and this case fascinated me. I was always worried a repeat incident would drop a plane on our house.
