Trials and tribulations? This is flight, not open heart surgery! You sound like one of my coworkers that shakes his head in disbelief over my mile running and talks about how much he hates to fly. Newsflash- some people actually LOVE to fly! Being in and above the clouds, watching the world from above, meeting new people around you in the cabin from all over the country, seeing new cities and airports, even the sensation of the mini-coaster dip during turbulence--- I love it all! I even like airline food, even though most love to hate it. I'm also a person who has always loved road trips too so i guess I'm a wanderer by heart. Do you ever stop to think of the marvel of engineering that is involve in flight? I mean, it's really incredible to be in a little metal cabin soaring above the earth. A sensation that I believe 9/10ths of the world never gets to experience due to world poverty and such and yet many Americans of even lower incomes can hop across the country for fun feeling the exhilaration of being in the sky for less than two hundred dollars usually. Amazing!
I don't have to travel for my job. It's 100% for leisure and the thrill of it.
And then in addition to the fun of the flight itself as a way to pass a day (and don't forget to throw in the recent movies releases, music variety, and chance to read or surf the web at the same time) you have the benefit of the rdms. I've earned almost 400k redeemable miles in the past 2 years thanks to delta promos and my delta status. And i've given away tons of miles buying trips with them for friends and family. Then on top of the rdm, you have the benefit of the status program, getting a chance (100% upgrade this year and 85% last year) to pay for coach but sit in first, and getting treated well what with meet and greet at jfk, special security lines (love that in CDG), lounge access, free bags, irrops assistance, etc. finally in addition to ALL of these great things i've mentioned the flight *also* functions as a transportation mechanism, taking you to places you want to go at generally faster and more efficient route than driving or going by ship. So if you choose to spice up your mile run with a day or weekend of sightseeing sandwiched in the middle even better.
Can you tell I'm passionate about this hobby? screw the haters.

If I was the GA, I may not have said anything to the OP, but I sure would have a good laugh with my colleagues in the break room, just like we do at our place of business when we see a customer doing something silly.
MRs are silly in the real world, so don't blame the GA for being a real person. We all are, so look in the mirror sometime.
My advice to the OP, don't fly unless you have to to make some money, or your are going someplace fun. Flying to just sit on an airplane and in airports is SILLY!
