Craig:
I've stayed at the Royal Hawaiian. On one hastily planned weekend trip to HNL our hotel of preference was booked for the second night, so I chose the RH for the second night.
We had a historic garden view room. The rooms were older, but well maintained, beautiful ornate wooden doors imported from somewhere (I don't remember what the bellman told us.) The interiors were beautiful, the bathrooms very nice. I think they had robes in our rooms.
It was very nice. Very nice treatment from the staff and a beautiful hotel. I would stay there again. I think it was much nicer than the Sheraton next door to it. The RH is a beautiful oasis in Waikiki. I don't think you'll be disapointed there, if you want to stay at one of those two hotels.
Hope this helps.
If you like chinese seafood try Beijing Restaurant in the shopping plaza in front of the RH. Excellent Lobster (whole lobster) in Black Bean Sauce.
