I can't begin to imagine how frustrating this must be for you, and your wife, after meticulous planning to make it as perfect as possible.

There are poor weather conditions (snow, wind, visibility, or rain...or some combinations thereof) wreaking havoc from the Midwest into the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic right now. (This at least partly explains the long phone waits.) It's a horrible day to travel, on any airline.

AA will not re-book you on another airline when weather is the cause of a delay or cancellation, since AA can not control the weather.
