Personally I quite like the AA lounges. I know the food offerings are rubbish, but they usually provide good wifi access, a place to shower, and most importantly provide access to the AAngels who seem to be able to do almost anything (and mean that as a lowly partner member, I don't have to join the general queues (telephone or ticket desk) to get help due to IRROPs).
However, you are referring to few Flagship Lounges (JFK, MIA, ORD, LAX and LHR), where the food offerings are skimpy but the lounge AAgels are nice. I was additionally referring to the dozens of lowly ACs across the country, where there is no free food, but QF members actually get drink chits -- no wifi access though. QF members have to pay for wifi cards at ACs (I think they are $10), where they are provided for free at FLs.
