The operating carrier is then supposed to look into the matter, and if they determine it's a legitimate claim (that is, you actually flew the segment, had a qualifying fare, and that the segment wasn't credited to another program), they send the credit for the flight to your program, probably in the next regular transfer on whatever schedule that operates on.
In an ideal world, this would happen quickly and correctly, but several things can go wrong: the operating carrier doesn't process the missing miles inquiries quickly - not much can be done other than wait. Or, the operating carrier can just ignore or "lose" the request - after waiting a reasonable amount of time, you probably just need to re-submit the request. Hopefully, if the operating carrier processes the request but rejects it, word will get back to your carrier with an indication that this happened and the reason why, then if it was a mistake, you can challenge it.
If it were me, I would NOT do this. Your request is almost certainly over at the operating carrier waiting to be processed. Calling your carrier every day is likely have no effect on how quickly the operating carrier processes it, and is likely to cause you to be tagged as a 'problem' customer by your carrier.
And regarding re-qualification, I would not worry about the upcoming end of the year. It's not as if they make a one-time decision on each AAdvantage account at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve, and if you didn't make the cut, you're out. Sometimes, even miles that post in the normal fashion can take awhile from certain partners. Once BA eventually sends over the credit for the flight, it will be dated with the actual flight date, and you'll get 2010 elite qualifying credit for it. I wouldn't start worrying about it until the end of January if I were you.
Thanks for that. I think you're probably right about not calling every day but I do want to keep at it in case it goes astray.
I'm sure your analysis that it's with BA is correct but they've effectively blocked my enquiry by taking the "it's not for us to chase it" attitude and they won't even put me through to the department that deals with these things. Problem is that if I decide to do a short run just to make sure, being UK based realistically means using BA again.
