Three questions:
1. Will this work for non-refundable tickets as well?
2. Co.com is selling a codeshare from LAX to MCO on UA. If I purchase a refundable ticket on com.com (UA metal), will this work for the triple miles work?
3. What is the non-fly option? Even if I do get the Chase Card, I don't see myself making $40,000 of purchases in December to get 8,000 miles.

As others have stated you will earn 8,000 miles if you actually fly. If you buy this refundable flight then buy the miles, then refund the flight you will only earn 4,000 because you will never fly the other 4,000 eqms.
1.)Probably, although you will pay the cancellation fee. I guess you could do it in the 24 hour window.
2.)From my experience if its a CO coded number you will receive the option to buy miles.
3.)The sole purpose of this program is to reward people who fly a lot, not to offer these work arounds so people can some how earn the same benefits.
