You can book through the hotels and they'll be better than just flagging one down onthe street - who can take you to their buddies's shops. I booked one for a free day for $20 through the Marriott and this guy comes to the hotel everyday to tout people around. So he wouldn't want to risk losing that steady business. When I went to the museum, we arranged a time he would be back to pick me up, and he was there smiling and waiting.

I would definitely use a taxi that is regularly servicing the hotel.
As for "rip ofF" - if the same (if not inferior) product is offered at a more than 50% markup, I deem that a ripoff. Your opinion may differ from mine but it is what it is.
