Any business where the employees' presence on the other side of the security line is both critical and time-sensitive, perhaps?

You seem mystified that airlines allow their employees into the place of business before the customers, but this is the norm for all businesses (even on, say, Black Friday when customers are lined up around the block; I'm sure the Toys R Us cashiers get to jump the queue )
