UpInTheAir...interesting. As many others have stated: there are many methods to be "granted" (free of charge) an additional year in SPG Gold for one more year without charge or points but I would assume that what you've mentioned might apply to "another year" AFTER, let say, you've been granted a "trial" year's membership.

Since I'm not sure I would appreciate anyone's comments/thoughts on this.
