Like you, I hope it's because they've just been overwhelmed by these calls.
Remember that those of us who object to the TSA and its procedures are in the minority; by a large margin.
That applies to airline agents too, probably more so since deep down they want (and need) you to keep flying. Just don't debate it with them.
