As a point of reference, the thrust setting at takeoff for QF32 was 72%, and at time of failure was 85% with brief spike up to 87%. SIN has some of the longest runways in the world, and SIN-SYD is much shorter than LAX-SYD.

As for "miniscule differences", 1% is about 10x the power of the highest performance car that you can buy anywhere in the world
