While some should most certainly account for their time in the cost, like folks who have to give up a weekend day, I and a perhaps small cadre of others are lucky enough not to lose much in the way of productive time on MRs, so I'd personally rather take a 762 transcon or two than pay to buy back status. Everyone's situation is unique of course!
I do put some value on it, but most of the time, especially on long distance flights, I am relaxed. My MRs this year are to places I don't mind visiting. I visited my sister in RDU that I haven't seen in a long time. I spent an overnight in Seattle. And the longest time in the 2 MRs for this year will have been spent with a total of 4 days in Puerto Rico. I also like the ability to work with GOGO.
