After a lot of barking probably from FT and facebook, they amended the rule and we still get 2 CR1s/Qtr/10k BIS for 2011. So I will save the SWUs for INTL and using CR1s for the transcon.
To OP, when you saying booking Y is that mean Y fare or just SWU eligible Economy fare? I would think for Y fare, SWUs will be safe with booking 6 month in advance. With 6 months as 1K I really think you should be safe even on W fare. LAX-NRT shouldn't be that bad to clear as 1K. But if you book in Y fare, the difference between Y and Z is negligible in that case I will just go for the sure thing.
