Since the OP is US based, I don't think he will qualify for any of these Singapore cards. So if he has to have KF miles, then US Amex is the way to go- MR points transfer 1-1 to KF.

So it makes sense to get SQ miles.
Actually, it doesn't- I've lived in Singapore, forever, for the last 3 years, as do many of the people who post on this forum. The reasons to avoid KF are clear, if you do a search- there is no super premium status on KF, *A Gold gets you the same privileges as KF Gold Elite, poorer redemption values on KF (taxes, expiration and saver availability). The only good reason to accumulate KF miles is if you absolutely have to redeem J or F tickets on certain planes- not something you would know now.
Most of us fly SQ a lot- I'm ~90%- and love the airline, the service, the quality of the in-flight experience. It's just the FFP that offers poor value, compared to other *A programs.
But you can also just live and learn, like the rest of us- I have ~100K orphan KF miles that will expire soon, because I haven't found a good redemption value (need to book that F FRA flight!). But I thought you were posting a question in the forum because you wanted to make an informed choice.
