I did this in 2005 and it was one of my best New Year's Eves ever.
I flew out to California on December 30th and met up with my friend. On the 31st we flew SFO-JFK-LHR. The JFK-LHR segment was in Business and we watched the moving map until it said "local time: 11:59 PM". We then went to the galley, got two glasses of champagne and toasted the New Year. Few stories are more fun for me to tell then "I took off in 2005 and landed in 2006".
