Although I will be thrilled if this is true, I find it very hard to believe that JL and NH will offer anything cheaper than the 28-day advance purchase C class fares that they already offer. Those fares are already very good for long-haul C class on a quality airline. I flew NRT-IAD in C for 390,000 yen (incl all taxes) earlier this year.
And considering how C class capacity keeps declining as airlines introduce ever-more extravagant and spacious seating (see ANA's new 777-300ER which has drastically reduced capacity), I can only imagine that fares will go up.
But with JBV coming, not sure what they are going to do with their fares. There's a noticeable difference in fares on JAL/ANA and AA/UA.
Doesn't look like NH has problems filling their C cabin. My JAL flights are pretty full in C too but that could be due to award/upgrade redemptions. I hope it's true that they will at least lower the C fares to be more competitive in the US. The cheapest ex-US C ticket is at around USD 4K at the moment.
