The average cost of a home in Austin in 2009 was $227,000.
The unemployment rate during the same time frame was 6.7%
30% of the population makes between $75K - 150K.
So, 350K on a home; be it a luxury condo downtown or a McMansion in the 'burbs really isn't that outrageous for a good segment of the population. If I could afford it, I'd move in tomorrow.
