No apple will not sell it to you in jersey you can not officially have an itunes account here you need to use a mainland uk postcode. The only way to avoid vat is if you know someone with a vat registered uk company you can buy online invoice the uk company (use the ba shop to get the extra miles and ba Amex card) then get the uk company to do a vat free export order. I like the iPhone but it's bad to type on I use a nokia n97 mini everyday and my ipad which I type on all the time. I even use the iPad for Skype calls, bit trigger happy tv though!
Don't forget the GST!

1 more thing the BB is loads more expensive, for data. I use sure they wanted £15 extra a month for data. Supplying my own phone (eBay£150 n97 mini) the data plan with sure was a free add on. I have a micro sim cutter and can also use he sim in the iPad. (sure told me it would not work but it does)
